Anyone had any experience with these? For those who caught my last post I've been on the car hunt and while i said i didn't want a smaller car one of these guys popped up for sale down the road for a very attractive price. It's a 2001 with 58k miles, not sure what motor yet since its debadged but I'd bet it's the 1 litre.
Anything to look out for if I view it?

Hmnyeah. My mother's Škoda Fabia hatch (2000) and my friend's estate (circa 2006) have both effed-up their power windows mechanism. I hear it's fairly standard and used across the range on VAG vehicles of this vintage and size - like the Polo.
I don't know much about the 1 litre, ours is a 1.4 16v and his is a 1.4 TDI. The diesel is neat, sips petrol (can get it down to about 3 liter per 100km on highways). Our 1.4 gas mill, though, I'm not too happy about. All the power's at the top end, acceleration is kinda meh, and it eats gas like there's no tomorrow. I'm talking like 10-ish city driving. And I ain't got a lead foot.
As for the Polo itself, a buddy had one and my aunt had one. Solid. No drama, really. Of course, follow the usual stuff regarding buying used...

Power window issues wouldnt bother me too much, I've fixed stuff like that before. I wondered about fuel economy, my girlfriend has a 1 litre micra and it only gets around 20mpg smaller engines are nowhere near as economical as they should be on older cars. I'll have to get a feel for the power delivery on the test drive but obviously if its a 1 litre I'm not expecting anything haha. Yeah I know the drill buying used should be fine with that. Thanks for the reply!

I'd advise to not just buy the car down the road, unless you can get a great deal from someone you really trust. There are tons of similar cars available in your area and you can pick the one that suits your tastes much better that way.
On cars of that vintage low mileage isn't by definition a great thing. I'd rather have a 100k highway driven car than a 50k city driven car.

I know the garage that is selling the car they sell cars on the side and do good work from what I've seen. They have a fair few cars in stock that dont interest me and the reason it caught my eye is I have a little bit of a liking for VW not sure why and the car is well below normal market value, although there might be a reason for that... My car search has been pretty expansive so it's not a case of just wanting it because it's there I've just been considering all options.
I was planning on asking about the mileage, if it's because it has done 4000 ish miles a year I'm fine with that. If it has been sat a while I'll have to walk away. I'm very thorough when I inspect cars so if there's an issue I'll find it.

Fair enough. Buying from someone you have confidence in adds to the attractiveness of the car. Still, I'd make sure it's got the engine you'd prefer in that car. Polos must be more than common if it's anything like the Netherlands where I live, so you can afford to be picky.
Now that you mentioned cars that have sat for a while, I'm about to buy one that has been sitting since 2010-2011 (in a warm garage). Any things I should look out for? It's a semi-classic that's not common, especially in this condition.

Insurance is best on the 1 litre which is why I'm happy to have it, in a perfect world I'd really want the diesel. They're surprisingly uncommon for decent prices where I live, rust claimed many of them and deferred maintenance got the rest of the cheap ones.
Sitting three years shouldn't cause too many issues other than the expected stuff like possible bad gas in the tank, flat battery etc. If it's an older car rubber seals or bushes may have decayed quite badly so look at things like that too. Otherwise if it runs and drives well it should be okay, anything wrong should be reasonably easy to spot.
